Chris O'Dowd: It's good to be scared
Chris O''Dowd thinks it''s great to be "slightly scared" by things.
The Irish actor plays Dave in The Sapphires, about an Australian Aboriginal girl group who go to entertain US troops in Vietnam in 1968. Chris had to learn a great deal about the music business for the role, which was part of the reason he signed up.
"A band coming out of nowhere isn''t the most original story ever, but I felt it was such an interesting world that I was ignorant about. And terrifying too (I had to play piano). It''s always good to be slightly scared by what you do," he told the December issue of UK InStyle magazine.
Chris isn''t the most musical of guys but gave the film preparation his all. He expects people to be surprised when they watch it and then hear his piano talents are somewhat limited.
"I can hold a tune in a really bad karaoke way," he said. "For the film, I only had three weeks to learn how to play the piano, so I just learnt three songs. But I was totally intoxicated by the lifestyle of the travelling band."
