Malian Songhai Folk superstar Sidi Toure to play 1st London gigs


Award winning Malian singer/songwriter Sidi Toure will play his first ever shows in London this week.

He will play Momo tonight and tomorrow Wed, 14th of Nov he is @ Café OTO (EatYourOwnEars / sold out). 

Sidi Toure will be back in the UK in January as part of SAHARA SOUL featuring also Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba (Bamana ngoni super group from Segou, Mali) and Tamikrest (desert blues rock Toureg from Kidal, Mali) @ Barbican (26th Jan) + @ Celtic Connections (27th Jan).

Sidi Toure is a singer-songwriter and descendant of royal griots from Gao, an ancient city on the banks of the River Niger in Mali. The winner of two Malian national awards for best singer, Sidi is a nationally renowned figure in his home country and is beginning to achieve well-deserved success and critical acclaim abroad. 
Drawing inspiration from traditional music and religion, Sidi is informed by western blues and, along-side fellow countryman Ali Farka Touré, is a salient proponent of Songhaï blues. Naturally fusing tradition and modernity with arresting, beautifully crafted songs of real-life African storytelling and city-dwelling dilemmas, Sidi Toure delivers his distinctive sound full of magical realism.
Sidi Toure has released two critically acclaimed albums, (Sahel Folk (2010) and Koima (2012) on the Indie American label Thrill Jockey Records. This is the first time he has appeared in the UK.
