Cyrus gets pig for birthday
Miley Cyrus was given a pig for her 20th birthday.
The former Disney star is no longer a teenager as of November 23.
E! News reports animal rights activists at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are acknowledging Miley's dedication to animal rights by sponsoring a rescue pig named Nora for her big day.
"PETA knew that sponsoring a rescued pig was the perfect birthday present for a young woman who spends so much time encouraging others to help animals," PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman told the website.
"From promoting animal adoption to speaking up for cows who suffer on dairy farms, Miley never stops letting her millions of fans know what they can do to make the world a kinder place,' he said.
PETA has also recognised a donation page created by Miley's fans for her birthday. The site is raising funds for animal charities including Starkey and Saving Spot, the website reports.
Miley has been outspoken about her efforts to rescue animals.
In May she took in a puppy she found abandoned at a Walmart near her home.
"I don't understand how people can be so cruel," she tweeted at the time.
The puppy, Happy, was the fourth dog to join Miley's family.
"There's times when I think we dont rescue them but they save us. We r BOTH so grateful," she added (sic).
