Firewind vocalist quits for good

Firewind vocalist quits for good

Firewind-vocalist-quits-for-good
Firewind's long-term vocalist, Apollo Papathanasiohas, has quit ahead of the Greek metal band's imminent US tour.

Even though Papathanasio had been temporarily replaced for touring duties a few times, he appeared on all Firewind releases since 2006's Allegiance, and the band's upcoming live album will feature recordings from his recent final shows with the group.

In a statement, the band said: "For the past few years it was evident that Apollo could not keep up with Firewind's ever growing and demanding touring and promotional schedule. Several times we've had to recruit replacements in order to continue touring the world and keep playing for our fans."

Papathanasio dropped out of a European tour in 2011, which guitarist Gus G (pictured) discussed in an interview with Music-News. He said: "It doesn't even surprise me anymore. Our motto is 'the show must go on' and that's what we always do."

The band have announced Kelly Sundown Carpenter (Adagio, Beyond Twilight) as their new singer. They head to North America in February for a month-long tour with Turisas and Stolen Babies, and return to the UK in August for the Bloodstock festival in Derbyshire.

Firewind ended 2012 by playing four club shows in Greece to mark their 10th anniversary. They also headed into the studio to mix recordings from latest album Few Against Many for an upcoming live record due for release this year.

Billy Bragg to release first studio album in five years 'Tooth & Nail'

Billy Bragg to release first studio album in five years 'Tooth & Nail'

Billy-Bragg-to-release-first-studio-album-in-five-years-Tooth-and-Nail
Billy Bragg releases his first new studio album in five years Tooth & Nail on Cooking Vinyl records on March 18 2013.

The limited special edition Bookpack includes the CD, a 36 page booklet containing exclusive photos and a collection of columns written by Billy originally published in Q magazine between 2008 and 2011, plus a DVD of 10 promotional videos that Billy made for his singles between 1986 - 2002.

Drawing on personal rather than political themes, Tooth & Nail was recorded over a whirlwind five-day session with Grammy Award winning producer Joe Henry (whose impeccable production credits include Solomon Burke, Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello and Hugh Laurie) in his South Pasadena basement studio.

With Joe taking Billy out of his comfort zone (all vocals were recorded live without retakes or overdubs) the album features an accomplished crew of musicians, including Greg Leisz (Bon Iver), Patrick Warren (Lana Del Rey), Jay Bellerose (Regina Spektor) and David Piltch (Ramblin' Jack Eliot).

The spontaneous results are, according to Billy, a return to the rootsy sound of 1998's Mermaid Avenue sessions he recorded with Wilco - drawing on soul, country and folk music influences to explore the ups and downs of relationships that have stood the test of time.

In his own words: 'In 2011, I took a long, hard look at who I am and what I do. This album is the result.'

'Tooth & Nail' will be released March 18th through Cooking Vinyl Records.

One Direction learning languages on YouTube

One Direction learning languages on YouTube

One Direction wants to 'avoid embarrassing moments' in foreign countries in the future.
During a press conference in Tokyo, Japan last week band member Zayn Malik abruptly ran offstage holding his apparently raging upset stomach.
One Direction's other members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan were left to cope with an awkward interview.
To prepare for other international visits, the group will learn more about the country they're visiting beforehand.
'The press conference in Japan got embarrassing because the boys' culture shock was so obvious,' a source told British newspaper The Sun.
'Over the weekend they vowed to learn at least 20 of the most common words in the languages of the countries they're visiting before they land there.
'They think it will avoid embarrassing moments and build up a bond with fans.'
Although One Direction has amassed a fortune, the boys aren't hiring tutors.
Apparently they will rely on the Internet for instruction.
'They're just going to use YouTube tutorials to brush up on their language skills and think that's going to be enough,' the source said.

will.i.am: President Obama's approachable

Black Eyed Peas musician will.i.am is impressed by President Barack Obama's authenticity.
The star is currently in Washington D.C. celebrating Inauguration Day with a host of other celebrities including Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Beyoncé Knowles.
Whenever Will has conversed with President Obama, the head of state is fully receptive and gregarious.
"I think people know a lot about him. He ain't a ninja - I mean, he's my ninja - but he's not invisible," Will explained to MTV News.
"He's a lot like how you see him. He's cool and fun but serious at the same time. He's approachable, he's kind, aware... attentive when you're speaking to him. He takes his time to speak to normal folk and important folk at the same."
Will has high aspirations for America's future.
He hopes that President Obama will focus on improving citizens' lives.
"What I want to see happen is science programmes getting funded in every single high school and junior high school, so when Obama is not president, those programmes are still going and successful," he said.
"I'd like to see Apple and Dell factories be brought to the inner cities; in every project in America, there's some factory there, and it's abandoned, and I'd like to see those factories open and bring jobs to America."

Simon Cowell: Reality TV isn't dead

Simon Cowell: Reality TV isn't dead

Simon-Cowell:-Reality-TV-isnt-dead
Simon Cowell insists good reality TV shows aren't 'dead'.
The music mogul is the brains behind popular singing contest The X Factor and the Got Talent franchise.
Last year The X Factor was hit by bad viewing ratings, but the founder of Syco TV insists it's not the end for the reality genre.
"For bad shows it''s dead, definitely,' he explained to the BBC.
"You''ve seen with something like the Olympics, when you put something good on, people watch it."
Britain's Got Talent suffered lower audience numbers than in previous years.
The US X Factor also found itself in a ratings battle with rival talent show The Voice, but Simon insists the quality of his shows will mean they remain popular.
"You''ve just got to try and make a better show than you did the year before. And if you do that there''s a chance you can get the numbers up,' he said.
The UK X Factor is currently signed to British channel ITV, with the contract ending this year.
The 53-year-old isn't worried about the future of the singing competition.
"I guess there will be conversations then,' Simon said.
'It will be on TV for a long time to come. Both shows will. But I want to get this year out of the way first before I think about anything else."
This year has seen a shake-up in The US X Factor judging panels, with Britney Spears and L.A. Reid confirming they will not be returning for the next season.

Britney Spears' ex-fiancé Jason Trawick reportedly hated pandering to her off the wall needs.
The former couple announced that their engagement was off earlier this month.
Britney has been under court ordered conservatorship since her 2008 mental breakdown and talent agent Jason was appointed one of her conservators last year.
Apparently the singer exhibited bizarre behaviour in the home, speaking in odd accents and refusing to shower.
Jason, who stepped down as Britney's conservator the day of their breakup announcement, just couldn't take it anymore.
'Jason felt more like a father than a boyfriend. He made sure she ate properly and took showers, even picked out her clothes,' a source told Star magazine.
'She's really difficult to live with, and he was at his wit's end-they had no sex life because he was no longer into her.'
It is rumoured that Jason is worried about picking up clients in the future.
He doesn't want his failed relationship with Britney to adversely impact his career.
'Jason is scared to death over financial future-no one will take him seriously as an agent again-but he believes nothing can be as bad as life with Britney,' the source said.
