Rock Goddess of 2013 – 3rd Annual Loudwire Music Awards

Rock Goddess of 2013
Each year, it seems like Rock Goddess is always the most popular of all the categories in our year-end awards. With the presence of women in rock as strong as it’s ever been, there’s no doubt that the competition should be a good one in the 3rd Annual Loudwire Music Awards.
With last year’s winner, Evanescence’s Amy Lee, not back to defend her crown as the group was inactive in 2013, and our inaugural winner, Sharon Den Adel of Within Temptation, looking to have a big year in 2014, we will crown a new Rock Goddess this year.
Three of last year’s competitors return to vie for the title. Halestorm‘s Lzzy HaleIn This Moment‘s Maria Brink and Huntress‘ Jill Janus continued to rock our world in 2013, and joining them on this year’s ballot are Kylesa‘s Laura Pleasants and Sick Puppies bassist Emma Anzai. Check out each of the nominees for Rock Goddess of 2013 below:

Emma Anzai

Sick Puppies

Sick Puppies made a major return in 2013 with their 'Connect' album, and fans were definitely connecting with the wicked bass licks laid down by bassist Emma Anzai. The striking and hard rocking bassist Anzai definitely lights up a stage and she's the perfect compliment to the hard rocking melodic goodness of her bandmates Shim Moore and Mark Goodwin. Their banner year included the hits singles 'There's No Going Back' and 'Gunfight.'

Maria Brink

In This Moment

In This Moment began the success to their breakout album 'Blood' in 2012, but the always entertaining Maria Brink just continued to ride the wave in 2013 with the hit singles and equally eye-catching videos for 'Adrenalize' and 'Whore.' Add in a slew of festivals and headlining dates and In This Moment showed they were here to stay in 2013.

Lzzy Hale

Halestorm

What a year it was for Lzzy Hale and Halestorm. The band took home a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance early in the year, shared stages with Bullet for My Valentine and recorded a covers EP much to the delight of their fans. Plus, Lzzy ended up being one of the year's most sought out duet partners, guesting in concerts or on record with DeviceAdrenaline MobAlter Bridge and Slash.

Jill Janus

Huntress

Huntress are quickly rising through the ranks in the metal world, with powerhouse vocalist Jill Janus leading the way. The singer and her band really emerged this past year, yielding the stellar 'Starbound Beast' album, a hit song and video with 'Zenith' and rocking the Mayhem festival. Oh, and there was that romantic rock track 'I Want to F--- You to Death' that was penned by Lemmy.

Laura Pleasants

Kylesa

Kylesa continue to grow their audience with each record and their latest effort, 'Ultraviolet,' was surely one of 2013's standout releases. Singer-guitarist Laura Pleasants delivered a memorably hypnotic vocal on the single 'Unspoken' and also scored major points with 'Vulture's Landing.' Anyone who saw the band on their headlining tour with support from Blood Ceremony quickly realized how much Pleasants had to offer.
