Alana Stewart: Rod split was devastating

Rod Stewart's ex-wife was "at the lowest point of her life" after their marriage ended.
The rocker wed Alana Stewart in 1979 and they had two children together before splitting in 1984. She had previously been married to American actor George Hamilton, who she has a son with.
Alana has opened up about her life in a new memoir and admits she was heartbroken when things didn't work out with Rod.
"After my marriage to Rod broke up, I was at the lowest point in my life. I was absolutely devastated by the break-up of my marriage. It was so hard to pick up the pieces, everything in my life I had tried to run from just suddenly came bubbling up to the surface," she told FOX411's Pop Tarts column.
The star also began to worry about her parenting skills and even now fears she could have been a better mother to her children.
Following her split from Rod, Alana began to confront things from her past. In her book Rearview Mirror: A Memoir, the actress-and-model discusses being raped by a burglar at knife-point when she was 18. She has never spoken about it before, explaining for years she didn't deal with the fallout from the attack.
Alana saw it as something to be ashamed of and didn't tell anyone what had happened for a long time.
"It was so shameful I never told anyone until years later. It was so painful that I just stuffed it down, but it was a transformational moment for me because it is what gave me the real push just to get out of Texas and move to New York and start a new life. I had wanted to get away from my mother and her drug addiction, so when that happened it was the final straw," she explained.
Alana was close friends with late actress Farrah Fawcett, who died of cancer in 2009. She never thought the Charlie's Angels star would succumb to the disease and is still struggling with what happened.
"I had never experienced watching someone you love, slowly die. In the beginning we never thought she was going to die ' she was so strong and full of life. She and everyone around her thought she was going to beat this thing, I was sure she was going to beat it," Alana said.
